Deva Premal and Miten’s Music is an Invitation
Into the Nature of Love, Devotion, and Consciousness—from www.devapremalmiten.com

I wake every morning feeling like I’m living in a miracle—where spirituality, creativity, work, and love have all come to mean the same thing. My life has been shaped by mantras; I have become their servant. —Deva Premal

After touring non-stop for almost 15 years and with over 300,000 CDs sold worldwide, Deva Premal & Miten are living proof that mantras are as relevant today as they were thousands of years ago. Singing mantras has been a passion for Deva Premal since growing up in a German home permeated with Eastern spirituality.

Now Deva Premal and her partner Miten travel the world sharing their gift of mantra music with enraptured audiences. “Our music has always felt precious,” says Deva. “Now our job is to travel and share it. Over time more and more people are coming to the celebration.”

Deva Premal and Miten’s music is an invitation into the nature of love, devotion, and consciousness. The couple have been living and playing together since 1991, releasing a string of acclaimed CDs along the way. Their concerts have touched the hearts of seekers throughout the world.

Our music is born out of meditation and a celebration of life. It’s not a matter of entertaining people. We play to nourish a longing in the heart for that which never dies—the experience of love and meditation. —Miten

German-born Deva Premal, best known for her top-selling chant CDs, is a classically-trained musician and gifted singer. Her albums, The Essence, Love Is Space, and Embrace have topped New Age charts and popularity polls in record shops, yoga studios, and healing centres all over Europe, Australia, and North America.

Miten, originally from England, began as a singer-songwriter-guitarist in the 70s, opening for such groups as Fleetwood Mac and Ry Cooder. He then discovered the power of meditation and left the world of rock ‘n’ roll behind. Miten’s focus on a more spiritual path is reflected in his meditative, joyful, and often sensual songs featured on CDs including Songs for The Inner Lover, Strength of A Rose, and Trusting the Silence.

Deva Premal & Miten, both devoted disciples of the enlightened mystic Osho, originally met in 1990 at an ashram in India. One morning, Miten was sitting on the edge of his bed playing guitar when Deva spontaneously began singing harmony with him. Everyone was astounded by the sound of her voice, including Miten. “Her voice is such a pure expression,” says Miten, “there’s no ego in it. That may be what touches people…”

Deva Premal and Miten’s offering to the world is supported by a simple yet elegant vision: “Everybody with a voice can sing, and everyone with a breath in their body can experience their divinity. Our nourishment and life’s work is to create spaces around the planet where the silence that follows the chant is clearly tangible. We share with others the healing power of the voice… and the bliss that it brings.”

As Deva says, “Without the silence that follows the chants, you get only half the story. It’s like the climax of a good story. The silence is there because it exists in the music. It just needs to be exposed and acknowledged. It’s so easy to overlook the silence inside the music... and it’s that which is healing us... if we allow it to be there. This is really one of the main reasons Miten and I sing—to bathe in silence. It’s our nourishment. It’s what keeps us on the road. For me there is nothing more precious than having sung with an audience, ecstatic with bliss, and then entering the deep silence that the mantra brings... so deep, that with closed eyes you really feel there is ‘nobody’ there at all... all personalities dissolved for a tiny sacred moment.”

Now the magic of Deva Premal and Miten’s concerts with Nepalese bansuri maestro Manose is captured in a beautifully packaged new CD/DVD combo called In Concert. This contains many of their most inspirational mantras and songs, plus six brand new, unrecorded concert favourites, including the uplifting anthem, In the Light of Love/Om Shree Dhanvantre Namaha. The two-hour bonus DVD highlights the extraordinary energy shared by these three gifted artists and their audience, and also includes interviews with Deva & Miten, and other extra features.

Deva Premal and Miten’s journey into love and creativity has taken their inspiring blend of song, mantra, and meditation to a worldwide audience, and thanks to their gift of music the world is a better place.
