How the Barbara Brennan School of Healing (BBSH) Helped Me Find My Way Home to Myself © 2014
by Laurie Keene

By the time I was 26, I was an old woman. Broken by years spent battling a life-threatening illness, the life that I had dreamed of slipped away. I was lost. I lived, but I did not know why.

Then, just as the author Anais Nin wrote, “…the day came when the risk it took to remain tight inside the bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom.”

After a final surgery, I ventured out, following only a voice inside me that said, “Go.” That voice led me to a workshop given by Dr. Barbara Brennan. At the time, I had no intention or interest in becoming a “healer.” However, during the workshop three events changed my mind.

The first was a conversation I overheard between two of Barbara’s colleagues: “The great thing about becoming a healer is that you get healed in the process.” And even though I did not think I wanted to be a healer, I knew I wanted to be healed. In BBSH, students learn about the complexities of their own energy-consciousness systems: where they are open, saying “yes” to life, and where they block and stop the flow of energy by saying “no” to life experiences. They learn how to open, release, balance, and re-establish a positive flow of creative life energy in themselves.

The second event was a healing I received. Soon after my healer put her hands on me, my usually tense body began to relax. My racing mind slowed down, and I calmly floated in a state of peace. In BBSH, students are also trained to channel healing frequencies and to align their power of intention to heal.

The final event was an undeniable experience of High Sense Perception (some people call this intuition or clairvoyance). Over the course of the workshop, we practiced many High Sense Perception exercises. During each exercise, participants called out what they perceived. I got nothing, so I remained silent. By the last day, I thought perhaps everyone was making up what they said they had perceived. I felt frustrated.

When it was time for the last healing I was the healer. I put my hands on my client and began the healing. As I did this an “x-ray” of my client’s spine floated in front of my eyes. The x-ray revealed a crooked spine. Surprised, I asked, “What’s that?” Then the x-ray dissolved.

After the healing, I told my client, “You might think I’m crazy, but I saw an x-ray of your spine and it was crooked.” He climbed off the table, turned his back to me and lifted his shirt. He said, “Look, Laurie, I have scoliosis.” I knew then that I was on the right path and that spirit had just given me “a carrot.” Instinctively, I also knew that all I had to do was trust and follow, and spirit would lead me home.

Additionally, during their course of study, students develop their High Sense Perception. This aids them in not only learning how to track and regulate their own system, but also how to track their client’s energy field. Another interesting point is that energy fields are not bound by laws of the 3rd dimension. Therefore, BBSH graduates are able to work with people from long distances.

Barbara Brennan had written in her book, Hands of Light, “All healing is coming home to the Self.” Having discovered a path home to myself at the Barbara Brennan School of Healing, I have had the privilege over the last 20 years to work with thousands of students.

As their teacher, I have witnessed as they learn to trust the voice inside their own selves, to trust in spirit—to trust in their capacity to heal themselves and offer this gift to others as they too find their way home.
