Have the “Guts” to be Healthy!
by Debbie Steer
Millions of people in this country suffer all manner of health problems and may not even consider the source to be a toxic sluggish colon.
In today’s fast-paced society taking care of our health is often neglected and eventually small health problems can become more serious. Eating nutrient-depleted, processed, and chemically-sprayed foods, drinking polluted water, and exposure to air pollution harm our bodies. Toxins are everywhere and have a great impact on our health. They are chemicals causing damage to body cells, organs, and everyday bodily functions. The body eliminates toxins through the liver, kidneys, blood, skin, lungs, lymphatic system, and the colon. The intestinal tract, or “gut”, plays an important role in our overall health. The colon, or large bowel, completes the digestive process by absorbing minerals, nutrients, and excess water from food residue and eliminates it through the anus. The entire process of eating to excreting should take less than 24 hours; so three meals a day should result in having three bowel movements a day. Since this is usually not the case, waste material stored in the colon stagnates and putrefies becoming toxic, potentially poisoning the body. This accumulated fermenting waste builds up along the colon wall preventing absorption of nutrients and loss of muscle tone. This can also harbour an overgrowth of disease-producing bacteria, parasites, and Candida/yeast, causing inflammation and major damage to the lining of the gut. Toxins from the liver are also brought to the colon for elimination. It is vital that the colon functions properly to remove this toxic load, otherwise it is absorbed through the colon walls and back into the bloodstream. This is an underlying cause of many chronic degenerative diseases.
How is my colon doing?
Millions of people in this country suffer all manner of health problems and may not even consider the source to be a toxic sluggish colon. Many experts believe the average person has 5 to 20 pounds of accumulated waste in their colon. If you are not having at least one good bowel movement a day you suffer from constipation—an affliction underlying many ailments and disturbances in the human system.
Some signs and symptoms of a troubled colon or toxic build-up are: fatigue, headache, mood changes, poor concentration, poor immune function, allergies or sensitivities, respiratory problems, acne, lower back pain, disturbed sleep, dark circles under the eyes, bad breath, coated tongue, body odour, ineffective weight loss, indigestion, gas and bloating, distended abdomen, constipation, diarrhea.
How do I keep my colon happy?
Colon irrigation is an ancient method of healing and its value has survived to modern day. Now more commonly known as Colon Hydrotherapy, or colonics, it is a safe and effective way of removing waste from the large intestine or colon. Certified therapists use a sophisticated hydrotherapy machine with sterile disposable kits for treatment. Sessions are 45–60 minutes in length, the client is fully draped and in a private room where comfort, dignity, and modesty are maintained. The treatment consists of gently introducing small amounts of purified filtered water, which is temperature and pressure regulated, into the colon. This water then softens and loosens built-up waste resulting in elimination by natural peristalsis (the muscular wave-like motion of the bowel). Safety and sanitation are promoted with this closed-based system making it a popular cleansing practice. Due to the accumulation of waste over time, a series of treatments are recommended to receive the full benefits.
Those who have experienced colonics express a high level of satisfaction and feeling of well-being. Most people feel wonderfully alert and energized after a session with a few feeling the short term effects of flu-like symptoms from the release of toxins. Furthermore, colonics are effective in preparing the large bowel for important diagnostic tests to evaluate colon disorders. Colon hydrotherapy can also be beneficial following pregnancy, as well as for bowel training, alleviating colds, hemorrhoids, ulcers, psoriasis, arthritis, and many other conditions. Various therapies and treatments respond quicker and more effectively with a healthy colon.
To compliment colon hydrotherapy, colon health can be achieved and maintained with adequate nutrient intake and properly chewing food to improve digestion. Increased fibre in the diet and improved hydration with more fluid intake helps to avoid constipation. Regular physical activity and decreasing stress also increase the ability to digest food and get rid of waste. For health maintenance, colonics can be combined with cleansing diets and detoxification programs.
The condition of our colon is not openly discussed or related to our health, yet the colon is an important part of normal bodily functions. Colon Hydrotherapy is a health-enhancing and preventive alternative treatment to assist in achieving a healthy colon which is essential to a healthy body. Personal health care is our responsibility—do you have the “guts” to be healthy? Go with your gut feeling!
