What is Dry Salt Therapy?

“I am an accomplished athlete and have had pneumonia twice. My lungs are my Achilles’ heel. Salt Therapy worked the second time much quicker than the first without having to take any inhalers or medication. That is why I opened Salt Therapy YXE. It works.”

Dry Salt Therapy, also known as Halotherapy, is a holistic, safe, drug-free, natural therapy which originates from the Wieliczka salt mine in Poland. Interestingly, workers were found to be healthier and had fewer respiratory illnesses than workers in other occupations. Today there are thousands of salt therapy rooms in Europe and beyond replicating this environment. It is believed all symptoms of illness can be therapeutically neutralized through salt. Dry salt therapy sessions are known to alleviate symptoms of many respiratory and skin conditions. It can reduce stress and headaches and decrease anxiety and depression. It can increase energy and promote sounder sleep. Furthermore, its rejuvenating properties support our immune and lymphatic systems. It can improve physical fitness, endurance, and an overall wellness in children, adults, and athletes.

Salt therapy is a great choice for people with respiratory conditions such as asthma, bronchitis, and COPD. Salt’s antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties, combined with its ability to remove airborne pathogens while decreasing allergic reactions, make it an easy choice. Inhaling micro-particles can reduce inflammation and mucus in the lungs, improving respiratory conditions, allergies, and sinus congestion. Treatments help keep the body healthy during flu and allergy season. As an accomplished athlete, I am very protective of my lungs and I am vigilant about keeping my respiratory system clear. My lungs have been my Achilles’ heel when training and I have suffered from pneumonia. Salt therapy has helped my breathing immensely, without the use of drugs or inhalers. It contributes to my better health overall and I recuperate quicker from sore muscles after a hard workout.

Salt is a natural disinfectant; it fights germs and helps to detoxify the body. For this reason, salt therapy can help many common skin conditions including eczema, psoriasis, rashes, and acne. Himalayan salt, unlike table salt, contains 84 elements and trace elements found in the human body. Table salt (sodium chloride) is dehydrating, but pure mineral salts have natural moisturizing properties and support the skin’s water balance and barrier function by attracting moisture to the skin.

Most of us live with constant exposure to electromagnetic radiation, which flows through our electronics (television, computers, laptops, cell phones, etc.) creating positive ions. Long-term effects can be serious and are known to increase stress levels, cause chronic fatigue, decrease the body’s immune system, and more. Salt has the natural ability to balance the positive charge. The neutralizing force of natural salt can balance the detrimental frequencies of electro-smog. This special characteristic of salt is utilized by the atomic industry in the abandoned salt chamber of Gorleben, Germany, where they store spent atomic fuel cylinders. The salt neutralizes the radioactive radiation.

Positive ions rob you of quality sleep because positively charged particles can reduce blood and oxygen supply to the brain, resulting in irregular sleep patterns. Salt therapy is a natural negative ion generator and can reverse this problem by improving air quality to give you a better night’s sleep. It naturally enhances your mood and improves concentration. The effects of the negative ions on your body are that it improves blood and oxygen supply to the brain and other organs and it provides a boost of serotonin to the neurotransmitters, which makes us feel happy.

Minerals are necessary for cell function and detoxification, so mineral salts have strong rejuvenating properties. Through the production of negative ions, halotherapy supports the immune, nervous, and lymphatic systems. It reduces chronic stress and fatigue, improving our health and mood by producing a balanced state within our bodies. It’s not just the purity of the air in the salt chambers that have such healing effects, it has its own vibrations that activate our self-healing and self-regulating powers. It remains, as it once did in Poland, a natural way to bring us back to our original balanced state when our body is sick and lacking its natural frequency.

The Experience

This is what you can expect when entering the room for a salt therapy session. I intuitively built my salt room using the idea of the original salt caves. As you enter, the salt emits a healing energy and a vibration that you will instantly notice. With a couple of Himalayan salt lamps and low lighting, you will notice a relaxing atmosphere and ambiance.

Background healing music is played to help restore your energy. You may also hear the hum of the halogenerator that grinds a pharmaceutical grade salt into tiny particles that you will be inhaling.

There is course Himalayan salt dispersed over the floor, and selected areas with courser salt for acupressure to stimulate the sensory areas in your feet. A special feature is a saltbox for you to allow your inner child to play in if you choose (trucks, sand pail, and shovel are provided) or, if you prefer, for you to cover yourself in the salt. In addition, you have several choices as to how you want to experience your session with a no-gravity chair to recline in, cushions, pillows, blanket, and yoga or natural straw mat for your comfort.
