From Diagnosis to Recovery: My Journey with Breast Cancer
by Judith Graile
In February 2017, I found myself anxiously waiting in the doctor’s office, grappling with the belief that there must have been a mistake with the mammogram results I received two weeks earlier. The experience of the mammogram was excruciating—over twenty images were taken, compressing my breasts painfully between metal plates. When Brandon Hospital called me back for additional mammograms and an ultrasound, I endured more discomfort and was given a biopsy on the same day. Deep down, I hoped they had misdiagnosed me and that I could prove them wrong.

TRE®: Have You Heard of It?
by Bambi Blair
TRE, or Trauma and Tension Release Exercises, is a somatic body-based practice created by Dr. Berceli. It was created for people with stress, anxiety, trauma, and burnout. It doesn’t require talking about an event, feeling, or issue; therefore, it overcomes the language barriers that can bring up added stress. It includes a series of easy specifically targeted exercise-based positions and stretches using the muscles of the lower body to activate the tremor, or shaking, in the legs. The exercises safely activate a natural reflex mechanism that releases muscular tension, calming down the nervous system.

Walking the Road to Reconciliation on Treaty Lands
by Randy Morin
tânisi (Hello), my name is Randy Morin. I am going to share a short snippet of my lived experiences as an Indigenous nêhiyaw (Cree) man living in Saskatchewan, and what I would like to see change moving forward into the future on the road to reconciliation. This piece is entirely my personal truth and does not reflect the views of all First Nations, Inuit, and Métis Peoples in Saskatchewan, and while I know that reading about reconciliation in Saskatchewan may make some people uncomfortable, I think it’s important to educate and create awareness that there are many barriers in place that inhibit walking the road to reconciliation for all treaty people.

Come Home to Your Sacred Body
by Linda Cimpric
Our body is a temple. How many times have I heard this, and yet never fully embraced the sacredness of it? Many. I have never had a reason to dislike my body. It has great proportion, strength, and the wisdom to birth two beautiful babies. Yet I’ve never really liked it. I have always found fault with every little molecule of fat, acne scar, and wrinkle.

Canada’s Role in Creating the First Atomic Bombs: Prophecy and Policy (Part 2)
by Nancy Tam
In the previous issue of WHOLifE Journal, I wrote an article about the hibaku trees which survived the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. As I write this second article, I remember Kevin Newman on Global News, many years ago, giving a news report about a prophetic vision of an indigenous Elder. Beautiful drawings were shown of what the Elder had prophesized; kind of like a moving storyboard.

Editorial
by Melva Armstrong
Welcome to the September/October 2024 issue! It’s that spectacular time of year when Mother Nature shows off her most magnificent colours. I think it’s a favourite season for many people. I have really enjoyed the gorgeous summer we had, with lots of sunshine and mostly soft gentle breezes, along with a few thunderstorms. The conditions were good for the farms in our area, so that’s always a good sign to help keep country folk happy and prosperous.
