The Farmers' Table is Two Years Old and Expanding to Saskatoon!
by Hélène Tremblay-Boyko
The Farmers' Table (TFT) Sustainable Agriculture Initiative is a non-profit organization made up of independent Saskatchewan family farmers working together to bring their sustainably grown, healthful, and delicious local farm products to Saskatchewan consumers. TFT farmers use sustainable practices to produce a broad range of farm products from meat and eggs, to fruit, vegetables, whole grains, honey, natural fibres, soaps, preserves, and more. We believe that buying from local farmers supports the local economy and places value on farmland and open space over urban sprawl. Buying local supports farmers who grow food for taste, diversity, and good health over uniformity and durability during transportation. Local food, picked at the family farm, is immediately delivered to your family table where its taste and nutritional value are at its peak. You will enjoy unique and flavourful heirloom and heritage varieties unavailable in mass-produced and transported food. Supporting small farmers preserves open space, jobs, and the security of a local, healthy, and sustainable food supply. Knowing your farmers allows you to connect with your food and fosters relationships, accountability, and knowledge of how your food is raised and who is raising it.

A Psychologist’s First Encounter with Energy Psychology
by David Feinstein, PhD
The procedures look strange: tapping on one’s skin; counting; humming; circling one’s eyes. What could this possibly have to do with psychotherapy and how could anyone claim that these incantations are more effective than established therapies that enjoy strong empirical support? Those were the questions I asked when I first witnessed a demonstration of the Energy Psychology (EP) approach fifteen years ago. At the time, no peer-reviewed efficacy research was available, only passionate claims from a small number of fringe therapists who were enthusiastically promulgating the method. Anyone using this new “tapping cure” was not only suspect due to the lack of any coherent explanation of why it might work, they were operating without a shred of scientific support.

The Gift of the Gong: Sound as Medicine
by Lynne Harley
While wintering in Arizona, I was blessed to participate in a weekly sound healing meditation, facilitated by a gong master and the resonating harmonics of her beautiful 32" gong. Something deep within me responded to this healing modality, so much so, that this past winter, I registered with the Southwest Institute of Healing Arts in Tempe, Arizona to learn more about sacred sound/vibrational healing. It is my desire to share this wonderful gift with others.

May I Please Have a Glass of Antioxidants?
by Robynne Smith and Brian Merkosky
Water is essential to plants, animals, and all living organisms. Without it, we perish. Adequate hydration is paramount to good health. But most of us are unaware that we are constantly living in a state of dehydration. Many beverages we consume are dehydrating, such as coffee, tea, sodas, and carbonated drinks. Symptoms of dehydration may be mistaken for illnesses such as asthma, digestive disorders, hypertension, increased cholesterol, weight gain, and arthritic joint problems Our bodies are crying out for water but the quantity and quality of the water is more important than most people realize.

Editorial
by Melva Armstrong
Autumn is my favourite time of year. I love all the delicious vegetables and fruit that are ripe for gathering. There’s something about the coolness in the air that feels comforting and refreshing. We are reaping the rewards of the spring planting and all the dedicated caretaking during the months in between. I am grateful for those people who provide us with fresh vegetables, fruits, and herbs. I feel it is important to support our local producers because the food is at its freshest and therefore, provides the greatest nourishment. I like to know where my food is coming from and how it has been grown or raised. We have no idea about the food from the supermarket that is flown in and/or trucked in from miles away.
