The current issueCoaching with Horses… A New Kind of Horse Power
by Carol Marriott

Horses have worked side by side with humans for thousands of years. They have enabled us to farm the land, transport our goods, fight wars, and carry us and our supplies as we hunted for food and travelled about. They have provided fun, sport, and entertainment with their beauty, power, and grace. They have served us generously with their strength, courage, and servility. Horses have many delightful qualities that encourage the horse and human bond.

Permaculture – An Introduction to Food Forest Design
by Stacey Tress

How many fruit crops do you think grow in the Prairies (Zones 1 to 3)? We are known for our large scale mono-culture production (wheat, canola) but we are also blessed to have access to over 50+ different kinds of perennial fruits/herbs/edibles such as apples, cherries, haskap, grapes, and more!
Before we talk about a “Food Forest,” we need to get an idea of where the concept came from.

Reconnective Healing: A New Level of Healing
by Marilyn Osecap

Most people in our province probably have not heard of Reconnective Healing (RH) – even with over a 100,000 practitioners worldwide, solid scientific research to back it, and VIPs like Deepak Chopra singing its praises – it’s still healthcare’s best-kept secret. When trying to explain what Reconnective Healing is, somehow it’s easier to explain what it’s not. It’s not a modality nor a method, it’s not a treatment nor a therapy, it does not diagnose, and the practitioner’s hands have no need to physically touch the person.

Forever-Young Qigong
Natural Ways to Rejuvenate Yourself

by Minke de Vos

Where is the fountain of youth? What are the secrets of long life? We have asked these questions for centuries. The ancient Taoists encouraged us to look within to discover the power of life force energy. When I meet old friends who I hadn’t seen me for years, they often say, “You look the same or even younger!” This I call an ageless glow that is generated from within through self-cultivation. Remember Bob Dylan’s song, “Forever Young?” This points to an ageless youthful attitude to life.

Wellness in 2017
by Abe Brown

More than ever before, we hear about wellness in the media, in conversations at Starbucks, and even the workplace. When we think of “wellness,” we think of well-being, wholeness, and balanced health. We think of a self-awareness that causes us to be at peace with ourselves and the world around us, with a focus on holistic health. What is wellness? Wellness is an active process of living a fully engaged life at every level of being. It is becoming aware of, and making healthy choices toward a healthier state of life. How can we pursue wellness in 2017? Understanding wellness is easier when we use the concept of 7 Pillars. Life is not one component, but many parts working together. With the 7 Pillars in place, wellness can be ours in 2017…

CHI Current – An Update on the Community Healing Initiative in Saskatoon
by Patti Lindgren Gera and CHI Facilitators

We begin our update with gratitude to Melva Armstrong (WHOLifE editor) for partnering with us to make this space available and to all of the Ancestors, Elders, and others who have participated in the Community Healing Initiative (CHI) experiment thus far. CHI is a grassroots response to modern trouble. It is a taking up of the inherent responsibility in humans to care for all beings and the Earth that sustains us. It is a community aimed toward an economy for life, with our contributions recognized in all forms, from need, to talent, to knowledge, wisdom, perspective, and material.

Editorial
by Melva Armstrong

Welcome to this March/April 2017 issue. It completes 22 years of publishing WHOLifE Journal. It feels like quite an accomplishment in my life. It has always been a labour of love and I have enjoyed creating a new issue every two months. I trust the journal is serving our community in ways that are educating and informing people about a wide variety of topics that can help everyone lead healthy, happy lives. I love that I get to meet so many fabulous people who are trained in a wide variety of natural and holistic disciplines so they can serve the people all over Saskatchewan. When I look through the back issues, it amazes me how many people have had a presence in the journal. Some advertisers have been with me since the first year and I am truly grateful for all the support I’ve had since day one. Thank you one and all!
