The current issueSoup’s On! How to Make a Traditional Stock
by Stacey Tress

Years ago, my husband and I took a culinary course together – a gift from my mom. My first real experience with the traditional method of preparing stock was at this course. I remember fondly walking into the classroom and being greeted by this most amazing aroma. I’ve been in love with making stocks and broth since then. Versatile, nutritious, healing, and delicious, stocks are a common base for many dishes, especially once the cool weather returns and the snow begins to fall.

GEMWATER – The use of gems to vitalize water is a traditional art form used in ancient Greece and the Middle Ages. In her writings, the Benedictine abbess Hildegard of Bingen described extensively their special healing effects. Recently, this age old tradition has been rediscovered and is practiced by more and more people throughout the world. In his book, Gem Water, Michael Gienger, one of the leading experts in the science of Crystal Healing, describes the basic principles and the different methods of preparing gem water. It is an ideal introduction to the subject and gives tried and tested gem water "recipes" along with a directory of the best crystals to use and their different effects.

Fluid Isometrics: What is It? What Can It Do for Me?
by Susan Livingstone and Fluid Isometrics

It was summer and I was looking for something new and interesting. I found an article about Fluid Isometrics in a local paper and I knew I had to try it. Posture is so important and without good posture, many things go wrong in the body. Aches and pains start, they get worse, and eventually they interfere in a major way. Although not terrible, I knew my posture could be a lot better, so my journey began.

Wax Pouring
A Traditional Folk Healing Art

by Diane Schitka

“Strakh Vylyvaty” is a traditional folk ritual brought to Canada by Ukrainian settlers from their home country of Ukraine. In English, it means “pouring out the fear” and it is also called the Ukrainian Wax Pouring Ceremony. The wax ceremony is a type of folk medicine where the healer called “Baba Povytukha” (old woman) pours pure melted bee’s wax into a pot of cold water and then interprets the shapes formed in the wax. These shapes may form into whatever the person is afraid of. It is a type of divining for the source of fears. These fears could be causing the person to experience illnesses in their daily life. It was thought that once these fears are poured out of the person, they are gone for good, so the person can go on living without them.

We’Moon 2016: Quantum Leap Year
by Anne Key, Author of Burlesque, Yoga, Sex and Love
Editor at Goddess Ink

The arrival of the new We’Moon datebook is the herald for the New Year, and We’Moon 2016: Gaia Rhythms for Womyn brings a year filled with beauty and support for change. The theme for 2016, Quantum Leap Year, is especially mindful, leading the reader through a year of destruction and regeneration—images inspired by Tarot card XVI: The Tower. The title for each new-moon theme brings us through the process of the Tower year: the falling away of the old, opening the ground for the birth of the new. My favourite is the ninth cycle, Renewal, with an inspiring painting by Bettina “Star Rose” Madini of a beautiful violet phoenix surging into the sky.

Be Your Own Guru
by Joanne Boutiere

What if I told you that there was another possibility right here, right now? What if things could be different in your life in all kinds of ways? So, what is it when I say, “Be your own guru?” Well, quite a few years ago, I received a channelling and what was said in that session was for me to be my own guru. Say what? I kind of knew what that meant and I’ve always said that we know so much more that we think we do and that we are so much greater than we realize and I didn’t really acknowledge that, or even know exactly how to know, or BE that.

I really enjoyed my favourite month of September and that same pleasure spilled over into October, as the weather has stayed much the same. The autumn colours were once again spectacular and dazzling to gaze upon. I always marvel at the instinctive changes that nature makes as each season unfolds. In the same way, I marvel at how a new puppy naturally knows exactly what to do as it grows and finds its way in this world. I am enjoying the 5-month-old pup, Laddie, who has come into my life. His unconditional love is a true joy and I love that he is so playful and charming. Animals really are creatures put on this earth to bring us happiness and to help us heal in many different ways. I trust that many of you have some sweet animal, or maybe more than one, in your life, who is loving and comforting and a real joy to have around.
